I am from the Caribbean and I was able to find all my local food that I like to prepare, like whole fish, saltfish, oxtail, goat and the sea food variety is very good. Just one star less of perfection due to the smell which bothers me every time I am at Compare Foods. All they do is to cut the tilapia into pieces but not remove the finsĬheap, fresh, diverse products and friendly staff. They never dress the tilapia I buy from their fresh produce section even though I indicated that it should be dressed. Since shopping here Im able to keep food on the table for my kids. Meat should not smell bad when you take it out of the pack coming in from the store. Meat should not smell bad if you leave it in the refrigerator for a few hours. But once you get the meat home, you can smell whatever is going on with them. It can be a $30 difference between a 40lb and 49lb pig. If you order a 40lb pig, youll get a MINIMUM 40lb pig. The pig I got was shipped from Miami, so it was frozen when I got it (thaw in COLD water overnight). You can purchase whole pigs here for roasting. We make a family trip to Compare once a month to stock up. The store is 2 hours away but it is worth is it. When I discovered Compare Foods I saw my childhood food memories. I would definitely recommend this place especially if you need certain kinds of meats and their deep produce section alone. The meat section is smaller but has anything you would need from sausage and goat meat to steak and lots of others. Deep selection of ethnic foods and one aisle has nothing but various kinds of beans. They have just about anything you can possibly need in regards to veggies.
